On the forefront of academic fashions and practices, Windward School strives to innovate and supply college students educational alternatives which can be unique, participating, and relevant to life within the 21st century. Alexander Pope identified a central function of poetry as taking thoughts we experience half-fashioned and giving them clear expression: what was often thought, however ne’er so effectively expressed.” In other words, a fugitive and elusive part of our personal considering, our own expertise, is taken up, edited, and returned to us higher than it was earlier than, so that we feel, at last, that we all know ourselves extra clearly.
Within the Historical world the Liberal Arts and Sciences consisted of grammar, rhetoric, dialectic, arithmetic, geometry, music, astronomy; at the least, the usual histories of schooling thus record them, though it is uncertain if Greek and Roman Faculties rigidly adhered to that checklist or to its nomenclature-the Athenian colleges of a certainty did not, because Aristotle and his successors taught zoology; neither did the colleges and universities which had been inbuilt Europe after Charlemagne for the university at Salerno specialized in botany; the one at Cologne, in stenography and bookkeeping; one at Paris in regulation; and many others.…
